Eta Strengthens to Hurricane and Turns Toward Tampa, Eastern Flood Watch

Eta is now a Category 1 hurricane and has made a turn toward Tampa, prompting a tornado and hurricane watch, while a flood watch is in place for the East Coast and 12 states in the northern tier to receive snowfall today.

Eta is now a Category 1 hurricane after strengthening with sustained winds of 75 mph and stronger gusts. The storm changed direction, making a turn toward Tampa Bay.

A Tornado Watch is in effect on Wednesday through 5 PM. A hurricane watch is also in effect, stretching 120 miles along the Gulf Coast, Tampa Bay Times reported. The greatest impacts are expected along the coastline north of the Interstate 4 corridor by Thursday night.

Flash flood watch: The NWS is warning of heavy rain with potential for flash flooding over northern Georgia, western and central North Carolina, Virginia, eastern West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, southeastern Pennsylvania, and southern New Jersey.

Winter weather alerts: There are winter weather advisories for portions of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. A winter storm warning is in effect for Western Wyoming.
