Hot and humid is the keyword of the day as nearly 20 million Americans will be under heat advisories on Thursday, as the heat index will make temperatures feel 10-12 degrees hotter. Here’s a look at today’s weather.
Nearly 20 million Americans will be under heat advisories today. It will be hot in the Southwest with potential thunderstorms in some areas, while hot and humid in the South.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for southeastern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, central and eastern Oklahoma, eastern Texas and areas surrounding Dallas and Fort Worth, all of Arkansas, and northern Louisiana.
Heat index values in the South will feel greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit in many locations, as the heat index could range between 10-12 degrees higher than the actual temperatures in portions of Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

Hot conditions are also forecast for the Ohio Valley with temps in the high 90s, the upper Midwest will see temperatures in the 90s, while the desert Southwest will have triple digit heat. Temperatures will be in the 90s in parts of the Southeast and Northeast.
According to the National Weather Service, there are no severe thunderstorms for Thursday across the US. However, there is a flash flood watch for southern Arizona.
Thunderstorms will span over the nation’s midsection affecting some parts of the Southwest, into portions of Colorado, and from Texas stretching northward into the Dakotas.
In the South, thunderstorms will span from the central Plains spanning the entirety of the South all the way to the Atlantic.
Thunderstorms will stretch over the Carolinas and the Virginia coast, northward along the mid-Atlantic coast, then spanning over the entirety of the Northeast.
Areas with spotty, scattered thunderstorms today will be portions of Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, as well as, southeastern Minnesota, central Wisconsin and northern Michigan.
